Getting the Blogging Bug (and the Traveling Bug) Again, But No Shicken Dobbies, Please

I recently rediscovered an old favorite – Robert Llewellyn’s blog is full of funny and interesting observations of life in the Cotswolds, where he keeps chickens and answers questions about whether there will ever be another episode of Red Dwarf, and browsing some of the entries makes me want to blog more (and better), and other entries make me want to travel more (and sooner). Most of the LlewBlog is about… life as you live it, especially if you’re interested in quiet country life in the Cotswolds, but occasionally have these other lives where you vacuum spaceships with groinal attachments,…

My new BIKE and other updates

So yesterday after a really rough day at work (my main reservation system was down all day, ALL DAY, and I had to stick around waiting until a tech IMed me at the end of the day) David took me to our local bike shop. And look what followed us home! We’re keepin’ em! My bike is a Specialized Crossroads Sport Step-thru (that’s what they call women’s bikes now) and David’s is a Specialized Allez Elite. He’s serious about road riding, I’m just getting back in the saddle (heh). I still have a mountain bike that I haven’t ridden in…

My Husband The Action Figure. Complete With Redshirt And Tricorder

My friend Ellen in Germany saw a recent story about getting 3D printed action figures on her blog recently (see Creativ Zeit) However, my brother-in-law Mitch and I had already conspired together to produce this masterpiece: This came about because Mitch found a website that with a few photos could generate a Star Trek action figure of your choice with your head or the head of a loved one on it. He also found a website that could generate .OBJ files, which can be opened in Blender. So I told David I was working on a weird “art project” for…

Flickr: Love The New Look But Hate The New Hook

One of the Second Life blogs I read occasionally pointed me at something I hadn’t noticed in the golly-whillikers inducing change in the look of Flickr. They’ve gotten rid of Pro accounts, and once the paid subscriptions I have for myself, my church, and my Second Life accounts run out, I’m pretty sure I’m not going to renew all of them. Why should I, with prices like these just to avoid ads? Well, at least I’m grandfathered in as a current Pro member, I can renew for another two years for the current cost of a one year “Ad Free”…

OK, Google, You Got Me, Now Something’s In My Eye

I’m off this week, I’ve been getting stuff done at home, and today’s the designated “de-clutter the living room and drop stuff off at Sparrow’s Nest day.” But I stopped to log in and check email, and also research an under-desk keyboard tray because the built-in one on my desk broke (no great loss). Typically, I start with Google, as it’s my default home page. I have to admit, they got me with this one, but the story behind it is even better. High school senior Sabrina Brady’s entry into Google’s annual Doodle 4 Google contest really stood out. The…
