Fake Reality: Cryptid, The Swamp Beast

It’s shot like a reality show, but it’s scripted. Supposedly based on real interviews and reenacted, it’s about a Louisiana mystery beast called the “rougarou” that various law enforcement and other investigators are tryiing to track down becausue it’s been killing animals. Then a body is found, and 2 guys are missing. There’s multiple cameras, a soundtrack, complicated technology (thermal cameras, helicopters), and it moves along briskly. At least there’s not a lot of the endless repetition of what’s gone before, at the begining of each segment after one of the (many) commercial breaks. I’ve been watching a lot of…

    Amazon Affiliate Program Removes Jewelry

Just received an email that as of January 1 2015, there are changes to the Affiliates program. https://affiliate-program.amazon.com/gp/associates/help/operating/compare Apparently the only change is that Jewelry has been removed entirely as a category under the Affiliates program. All the other percentages (I guess you’d call them sales commissions) remain the same.

    Murphyola’s and Veda’s Rum Balls

This is one of several recipe cards Mom wrote up to pass along the secret of her famous Rum Balls, which she developed with her best friend, Veda West. .The story of how this recipe was created involved a big church fundraiser, endless taste-testing, taking doors off hinges, and getting plastered. Also the way I heard it, Mom and Veda had to explain to the church pastor why they were so shickered making Christmas cookies in the church kitchen. My niece Raeanne has the Christmas card they sent back and forth multiple times in later years, with a story about…

Gators Gonna Gate, Or Why Peter Pan Live Wasn’t That Bad, Really

https://twitter.com/TikTokCrock/status/541018340639395840 So last night, the folks on Jezebel were all set to hate-tweet NBC’s second annual live musical theater production. This time around, it was #PeterPanLive, starring Allison Williams, aka Brian Williams’ daughter and some kind of star on HBO or something we don’t watch. Once again, I set up to watch live, or as close to live as possible given that we had to put dinner together, but I caught up via TiVo. And I tweeted, and tweeted, and hung out at Jezebel in the “live blog,” trying to get out of the “greys” (the pending comments). Today, Jezebel…

    Upgrades in Progress

Not much accomplished today other than upgrading both the iPhone and iPad to the latest version of iOS, and also replacing a WordPress plugin with its replacement. Everything seems to be working – the plugin pulls in items I post at Google+ and is highly configurable. I may tinker with getting it to create items as asides. We ate lunch out at a neighborhood place, David and I, and then I had a nap. Pretty much a perfect day off. There are more upgrades contemplated, but tomorrow’s plan is pretty fuzzy.

There Has Been or Will Be An Awakening

Listen to that voice. Who is it? Maaaaaaybe THIS GUY? Fan reactions at Digital Spy are undecided as to who the voiceover is, but I think it’s Benedict Cumberbatch. I recently watched a rerun of Graham Norton where Cumberbatch was encouraged/goaded/genially forced to say things in different voices, including a very funny bit of Smaug. BONUS: Benedict Cumberbatch can’t say “Penguins” which is very awkward considering he voiced a heroic wolf who helps save the Penguins of Madagascar in the new animated feature out this weekend. EXTRA BONUS FOR PEOPLE WITH LADYPARTS OR A THING FOR SMAUG: Sexy Smaug voice…

    Giving Thanks

We brought 2 pies to the family Thanksgiving gathering; we mingled, caught up with family members, got a new recipe (actually more of an ingredient list) and listened to all the chatter. It’s always a good time lying in wait for cousin Randy’s trays of cream cheese and onion stuffed mushrooms. I could eat a whole tray of those things, they’re legendary. However, the ingredient list I snagged was for a tasty grain salad made with farro and unbrined Italian olives. So yummy. The after-dinner conversational topics covered the usual ground; how lucky we all are, how busy we all…
