I’ve been sending a few friends and family invites to Flickr, because heck, I want some contacts that I actually know personally, in addition to the interesting but kind of anonymous people I’ve got on my contacts list. I have a few friends and only one family member on there so far… and seeing as I’ve got a great-niece whose probably got a lot of pictures wanting to be looked at, and friends are buying houses and having babies and what not, I should probably be more in the loop. Here’s my Flickr page: GinnyRED57. I also use the same…

We’re such geeks. While waiting for the replacement TiVo to arrive. my husband David has Snapstream set up so we’re watching the big TV through his laptop, with the sound coming out of the home theater speakers. And I have Snapstream on my laptop (which is also my main computer) and can watch shows David doesn’t follow, with my headphones on. And vice versa. So the Alton Brown show about steak was on (it’s a rerun), and I wondered what NECI on his ballcap stood for. Now thanks to Google, I know it stands for New England Culinary Institute, which…

I had a couple of days of head-scratching, then rising panic. I’ve been using a registered copy of ecto for Windows and had found this thread on their support forum that seemed to address the problem. So I duly followed the instructions, which were a little bit scary – basically, I had to edit a config file. Great, fine, but it didn’t fix the problem. I mentioned it to the Geek in Residence, my husband David. And he mentioned that a couple of other programs exhibit the same annoying behavior, and then with a click or two, there was ecto.…

Previously, I mentioned how irritated I was with clueless idiots from Myspace who hotlink who hotlink images from my site because they can’t be bothered to simply copy them and upload them to their own server. This can include images I made myself, and images I copied from somewhere else to illustrate something. Well, the first iteration of .htaccess needed some tweaking, and the original image was too small. After checking my stats tonight, I decided it was time to configure .htaccess to allow “trusted” hotlinks and then pull the trigger on the more obnoxious of the two images. I…

I’ve been tinkering around with Technorati Tags, a plugin for Movable Type, trying to get it to work on this blog and the Holy Moly church blog. I found in the course of things that I had deleted the Atom feed template for this blog, so I restored that. According to something found at Yezbick.com, the problem may be that I put the tag in the wrong spot, and/or in the wrong template. Well, for now it’s in the main index template and also in the Atom template. We’ll see if it works. I did finally get some tags working…

Disclaimer: I have always been a Windows user. Thus, I am used to the frustration that comes with this. I am used to the Blue Screen of Death (thankfully, it happens rarely now). I have struggled with upgrades that were most definitely NOT “plug and play.” I am used to the clunky uncoolness of the Winbox “design aesthetic” (stop snickering, Kevin and Steve) although as a Dell laptop user, I always snicker to myself when I watch Atlantis. Must have been a hell of a product placement deal, and I want a sticker for my laptop, too. Anyway, I am…

David got me this fun little gadget for my car – it takes the output from my iPod Mini and broadcasts a low-power FM signal, which is then picked up by my car stereo. It’s got 3 pre-sets, but you can program it to broadcast at any wavelength. Tune the car radio to the same frequency, and wah lah! Your tunes are on the radio! I’m not sure how far its effective transmission distance is, but it’s a fun toy. Also, it’ll be fun to take a lot of tunes with us when we travel.

Oooweee! One of our favorite TV shows has been Boing Boinged! It’s almost as if BB wasn’t really familiar with the show, which is weird because it’s totally on topic for them and totally aimed at their dream demographic: smart, slightly geeky people who build cool shit and blow stuff up in the name of Science! So anyway, there’s a DVD coming out. There are already a couple of books on the mighty Mythbusters. It appears that the mustache of Jamie Hyneman will probably succeed in taking over the world, one visual media at a time. But until then, it’ll…

Researcher Takes Aim at Alien Abductions – Yahoo! News Take a look at the story above. It’s an interesting story, but the really noteworthy thing is the web advertisement for Bausch and Lomb Soflens Multi-Focal contact lenses. It’s hard to ignore, because the tagline keeps changing – one line is “Read your news. Without reading glasses.”. At least it’s in soothing colors and doesn’t cycle too fast, so it’s relatively easy to ignore. But here’s the really annoying part. When you roll your mouse pointer over the advertisement, the clear image is replaced with a much larger image that covers…

So here's what's going on this week around here: Busy at work, but not as crazed as last week. Thinking about sick friends and considering how best to help Keeping only half an eye on the news Fooling around with iPod more (David got me a dock!) Putting off on uploading more photos to Flickr Getting ready to travel again Real Soon (just a weekender) Realizing that there's not a lot of time left Playing catch-up in nearly every area of my life Now that the Weekend of Crazed Running Around is over, I can finally say something about what…
