Sci Fi Wire — The News Service of the Sci Fi Channel The 200th episode will bring back the character of Martin Lloyd (Willy Garson) and his fictional TV show Wormhole X-treme, which was the subject of the 100th episode, “Wormhole X-treme,” and is a parody of SG-1 itself. Awesome. They’re even doing a wink and a hat-tip in Serenity’s direction. Look for more inside jokes. My favorite last time out was after the big exciting spaceship crash, where an assistant director and somebody else walk into shot, discussing the near-cataclysm and whether they caught it on film. “That’s OK,…

My husband David and I were catching up on some shows a lot this past week, now that TiVo II has arrived and made life liveable again. We were watching the end of “Criminal Minds” tonight, which was an episode called “A Real Rain.” It ended badly for the “unsub,” the unknown subject of this week’s exercise in profiling to catch the bad guy. As it ended, a gurney loaded with a body bag is taken away from the scene, shot from the middle distance. Distinctive, sad guitar chords began to play, and instantly I knew it was Jeff Buckley’s…

A Doctor Who spinoff featuring a character we haven’t had the pleasure of meeting yet is set to start in Britain Sci Fi Wire — The News Service of the Sci Fi Channel Davies added: “He’s a bisexual con man. Hooray! We need more bisexual con men on our television screens, I think, don’t you think? Bisexual con men from the 53rd century, what could be better? He was so enormously successful that we’ve created a spinoff for him.” Well, alrighty then! This gives us something to look forward to – this character apparently shows up for a five-episode story…

An old Highlander fan buddy sent me this link. I’m going to have to send it to the “big list,” where we’re all discussing SG-1 anyway. YouTube – The Star Gate Cantina I dare you not to laugh when the third verse starts: “His name was Yoda, he was a Muppet…”

This is just… sad. Eleven or so years ago, I was still living in Seattle – it was a somewhat lonely existence, as pretty much my life revolved around a few favorite television shows, my cat Studebaker, and occasionally going out with friends to hear live music. As it happened, there were several shows that I was more or less obsessed with, number one being Highlander, which started in 1992 and usually aired on Saturday nights. In the fall of 1994, a new show was about to premiere, and I decided to buy a VCR so I could tape the…

Friday, the SciFi Channel started showing the “new” Doctor Who, with Christopher Eccleston as the Doctor – two episodes, back to back. First, the one that establishes his new identity and starts off with a fresh Companion or two, and the next one was sort of a “Restaurant At The End Of The Universe” riff. David and I both watched the first one, set in present-day London, laughed delightedly at some of the bits that were meant to be funny, and also laughed at some of the things that were meant to be “cool.” It’s a pretty good entry in…

MILE HIGH COMICS presents THE BEAT at COMICON.com: A FOR ALAN, Pt. 1: The Alan Moore interview We’ll probably see V for Vendetta, the movie. Which is apparently fast-and-loosely based on Moore’s original premise, but the American comics-and-movies industry have screwed up Moore’s original vision. Keep in mind that the original has anarchists vs. fascists in the near-future tale, not Redstate vs. Bluestate. Moore has demanded that DC take his name off books and movies and stop sending him money, but they keep paying him. Also, they send him advance copies of books with poorly edited back copy: I have…

Ha! What a great HALF a leg so far. I love how the producers figure out ways to change the rules, play with expectations, and keep this show fresh. In a normal 2-person team, international itinerary season, of course. This week I started smelling a rat at the beginning, when Phil said “Who will be eliminated… next?” In the past, this always used to herald a non-elimination leg. Fans got wise to this. Producers got wise to fans getting wise, and sometimes a team was eliminated on a “…next?” type episode. Tonight, it wasn’t a non-elim, and I should have…

Teresa Nielsen Hayden has posted a “differently illegible” version of her nielsenhayden.com: tangible artifacts | CafePress” href=”http://www.cafepress.com/nielsenhayden.11458217″>blue on yellow nutbar T-shirt at CafePress I’m tempted, it’s a great design. And then, of course, the yellow indicates that I’m a happy, optimistic person. I heard about this on WWDTM this morning, then when I saw the nutbar-yellow T-shirt just now thought “Wall-la! I want a T-shirt that shows I may be a nutbar conspiracy theorist, but I’m an optimistic one.”
