You’d better hope I’m wrong. I’d heard that a remake of the classic SF TV series “V” was in the works, but take a look at this bizarre clip from YouTube someone put together. I went looking for more “poker tell” citations for the debate tonight, as the Chicago Trib had some in a slideshow, but somehow missed the many times McCain poked out his tongue. Actually, on this clip, he’s revealed as the first Iguana-American to be elected to the Senate and run for President. Yes, I took a season off and didn’t watch the 12th season of Amazing Race. At all. Can you believe it? All because we were out of town or something the night of the premiere, and even though it was on TiVo for a couple of weeks, I never got around to watching, and didn’t want to start in the middle. Apparently, Mr Nimoy did our favorite news quiz the honor of showing up in person, causing the staff much joy and making the dreams of at least one total dork come true (that would be host Peter Sagal). Yesterday on my way in, there were few signs in my area of the weekend’s floods, although I never made it to church and we had trouble finding a way through flooded Des Plaines intersections after leaving Steve’s house. WXRT was playing “Here Comes The Sun.” Obvious choice. Then there was a short clip from The Truman Show. Holy crap! We just watched the season finale of The Closer more or less in real-time, not wanting to wait for TiVo to spool up. It’s not just a cliff-hanger, it’s a heart-stopper. It amazes me how an ordinary TV cop drama can make viewers care so much… or maybe that’s just good drama, as TNT likes to tout. And good characterization, and good writing, and good plotting, and good direction, and good special effects, and so on. Dammit, they’d better start polishing up a new Emmy, or three.
