Enjoyed Friday’s episode of #SGU, not just because I’m a fangirl. Plenty of nuance, a lot of trudging across White Sands, but they’re in survival mode, people! And what about that shuttle? Syfy continues ratings roll: Stargate Universe averages 2.35 million in premiere – TV Ratings, Nielsen Ratings, Television Show Ratings | TVbytheNumbers.com Edgier and younger in tone, SGU takes the franchise in a dynamic new direction, appealing to longtime Stargate fans and first-time viewers alike. The two-part premiere of Universe was directed by Andy Mikita (Stargate Atlantis, Stargate SG-1) and lensed by Rohn Schmidt (The Shield, The Mist). The…

Bring on the rampant pantslessness, #SGU, and also the gritty, dark, but beautiful effects. @moryan has her take on the premiere, and I have mine on my blog. The Watcher: Desperate survivors get lost in ‘Stargate Universe’ I’ve now seen five hours of the show and still don’t feel all that invested in the the fate of 1st Lt. Matthew Scott (Brian J. Smith). Theoretically, I should — he’s one of the show’s lead characters. Two characters do stand out (more on that below), but the rest of “Universe” feels like an awkward mishmash of genres and tones. Though I…

@93XRT just played two excellent songs bookending a great Lin’s Bin podcast celebrating their station manager’s 30th anniversary. I just wish Shazam’s iPhone app could send custom tweets. WXRT – 8/28/09: Norm’s Anniversary There doesn’t seem to be a way to customize the tweets when using the Shazam iPhone app – I wish I could vary the text from “I used Shazam to discover…” And so, I won’t be using Shazam to send tweets very often, because frequent, robotic auto-posts get really annoying really fast.

Ben Dowden lays down the beats in the streets of Bristol. Watch and be amazed. (testing how WP handles embed code straight from YouTube) Via dowdenboy’s YouTube channel and Google Reader, which is really opening up the social possibilities this week. Thanks, Zamil!

We are a globeful of dopamine addicts. We endlessly seek and never find the newest new thing. Slate: Seeking Seeking. You can’t stop doing it. Sometimes it feels as if the basic drives for food, sex, and sleep have been overridden by a new need for endless nuggets of electronic information. We are so insatiably curious that we gather data even if it gets us in trouble. Google searches are becoming a cause of mistrials as jurors, after hearing testimony, ignore judges’ instructions and go look up facts for themselves. We search for information we don’t even care about. Nina…

We’ve really, really been riveted by Torchwood’s 5 part miniseries this week. Today’s the day when the creepiness ramps up even more. Meanwhile, our surviving heroes have to start from scratch, because their cool underground lair got blowed up on Monday. Torchwood: Children of Earth – BBC America The Captain Jack Harkness character is immortal, and one thing I’d wondered about was what would happen if he was blown to smithereens. We found out on Day Two – this was one of those nagging questions that always bothered Highlander fans, too. Jack faces some of the same issues as a…

Yes, Virginia, there IS satire in Utah. Don’t miss the “GOP Values Party!” cartoon…. or the “Senator Orrin McClownshoes” one… or the “Digitally Enhanced Pixelated Basin” one … oh, just keep clicking the little seagull. The Salt Lake Tribune — Pat Bagley Here’s a few selections of Bagley’s cartoons just in July and June: We Republicans are the Values… PARTY!! Digitally Enhanced Pixelated Basin and my personal favorite, now that Al Franken has finally taken his Senate seat: I think that’s Harry Reid on the left (naturally), and it’s definitely Borin’ Orrin on the far right, of course.
