    Never Again

Yesterday was from hell, but in a good cause, and a great party. My mother-in-law talked us into hosting a “surprise” birthday party for my father-in-law and 50 of his closest friends and relations. Here at the house. I didn’t blog anything about it for lo, these several months because there was a chance that he’d hear about this website from another family member. Now the story can be told of events leading up to Our Living Nightmare. A good time was had by all, apparently, except us.

    Sushi Station: Fast Food Express

Last night after our adventures at the Botanic Garden, we needed something to eat, fast. So we went to Sushi Station, which filled the main criteria: it was nearby, fast, and cheap-ish. Unlike another sushi place we’ve been to with a train motif, this one has a refrigerated case covering the “sushi line,” and plates of nigiri and such travel along a belt made up of interlocking discs (each one has a bite taken out of it, to allow for the next disc upline to rotate around the corners). Days Without Candy: 7

The aftermath of Valentine’s Day left me with a few more extra pounds I don’t need, so on a whim I decided last week to just not eat candy at all. In addition to munching on all the candy normally around the office during any holiday associated with chocolate, I was in the habit of getting a candy bar out of the vending machines. And also David and I usually get favorite candy treats at the grocery store – his is strawberry or raspberry licorice, mine is Peppermint Patty (brought home from the store intact and frozen). Well, something’s gotta…

    Sushi I Go Go

David and I have sushi telepathy. Today at approximately 515pm, a random thought popped into my head (as they so often do). This one said, simply, “Sushi.” And then in a rush to justify this thought, I pondered, “well, we’ve been good – ate in several nights this week already, with the exception of the big blowout at Sabor the other night.” So I called David on his cell and said: “I have one word to say to you.” (In the silence, no one can hear you say “can you hear me now”) “Sushi.” David started screaming something about “get…

    Sabor!

Oh, man, that was a good dinner last night. We met Steve and friends Chris and Susan to celebrate Steve’s birthday at Sabor! in Schaumburg. It’s described (a little over-enthusiastically by the waiter) as Nuevo Latino, which he chose to pronounce “New-Wavo” Latino. That’s a minor lapse on his part; he’s right to let his enthusiasm for the food run away with him, because the appetizers and entrees we chose with his help and advice totally rocked our worlds. A final note – Sabor’s decor is interesting and modern, yet comfortable. If you’re a non-smoker, request seats at the back…
