The current season of TAR continues to eerily predict impending disasters, like Katrina or the cancellation of a once-great show. This week, teams wandered around the Southeast avoiding Hurricane Dennis while finding random bits of giant furniture and spending the night in a trailer park. Wow, love the cultural immersion they’re undergoing! Not. There was one awesome shot of a curtain of rain and stormcloud behind the Paolos, who at least stopped for a second to look at it. Before the episode, there was a disclaimer about how the episode was filmed before Katrina and Rita laid waste to the…

That’s all Gene Robinson wants to be known for being: the good bishop, and not just the gay bishop. According to the article, the Diocese of New Hampshire is doing very well, with most parishes reporting modest growth, especially from young families. And there’s been a surge of applications for clergy positions in the diocese. Most are not gay, but think New Hampshire is the place for them to begin their journey.

I already knew where this episode was supposedly headed; spoilers had been floating around since the day they filmed at today’s location, because it’s been just about impossible to keep people from all over the country from saying “Hey! I think they filmed an episode of TAR in my area! I saw Racers/clue boxes/flags/production crew.” The spoilers are showing up in news articles and TV Guide-type websites, too, so I’m not feeling too much doubt about where we’re going. Of course, if we go somewhere else, I’m not the only one with egg on my face. Apparently, tonight we’re going…

I’ve been noticing for a while that various incarnations of Amazing Race drive readers to this blog – they search on team names, catch phrases, and occasionally on very odd but unique characteristics. Some of which are a little obscure, unless you’re as obsessed with this show as I am. Lori and Bolo TAR6: bolo s height 2 0.4 % Pink Ladies TAR8: godlewski sisters 2 0.4 % Brian and Greg TAR7: ugly hats 2 0.4 % Linzes TAR8: linz shirtless amazing race 1 0.2 % Linzes TAR8: linz shirtless 1 0.2 % Brian and Greg TAR7: it is a…

Well, crap. I screwed up the priority on TiVo and Amazing Race: The Lame Edition didn’t record. On the other hand, we get to see Commander in Chief before Saturday, when it repeats. So every cloud has its silver lining. Last season, and every season before that, this would have been a catastrophe on an epic scale, but this season? Meh. So I’ll just make a note of who left first, and who arrived last and got eliminated. Godlewskis – Departed Philadelphia: First. Arrived Middleburg, VA: Third Gaghan – Departed: Second. Arrived: Seventh (ooooh! Burn!) Weaver – Departed: Second. Arrived:…

Television Without Pity | The Amazing Race Season 8 Episode 1. Yep, it’s Miss Alli’s recap. I’m not done reading it. At least there’s plenty of raw material for her to snark with.

Chicago Tribune | `Close to Home’ pilot is stuck on the dark side And so it does. On her first day back at her job as a prosecutor, that new mom, Annabeth Chase, learns that the fire that she spotted from her living room window was set by a woman who purposely set her home ablaze — with her two children inside. Chase, who has a perfect record as a prosecutor, is determined to put her neighbor in jail, until Chase learns that there is much more to the story of the unfortunate woman and her two kids, who, as…

Dorothea sighs All the cool kids are going to see Serenity. And I’m not. Because public transportation around here sucks beyond belief, especially on weekends. Sigh. We saw the Big Damn Movie earlier today. After all the lead-up, it was satisfying to see it all on screen, although David warned me the ending might not be completely to my liking. And he was right, but it also wasn’t the standard neatly wrapped package devoid of loose ends. There was one sequence that seemed kind of unnecessary, and it’s not giving a spoiler away to mention that once again the climax…

Today’s an interesting day, all right. We’re hoping to visit Steve and hang out and see how he’s doing and what not. I was laughing earlier today, remembering when he and my husband David and I went out to dinner at Max and Erma’s up north, where Steve’s very cool nephew Benjy works. We have Benjy a ration of shit, and he very politely gave us a ration of shit right back, while taking care of our every niggling little request. That was a good time, I’ll remind Steve of that. Serenity opens tonight and it sucks that Steve probably…
