This is just… sad. Eleven or so years ago, I was still living in Seattle – it was a somewhat lonely existence, as pretty much my life revolved around a few favorite television shows, my cat Studebaker, and occasionally going out with friends to hear live music. As it happened, there were several shows that I was more or less obsessed with, number one being Highlander, which started in 1992 and usually aired on Saturday nights. In the fall of 1994, a new show was about to premiere, and I decided to buy a VCR so I could tape the…

Friday, the SciFi Channel started showing the “new” Doctor Who, with Christopher Eccleston as the Doctor – two episodes, back to back. First, the one that establishes his new identity and starts off with a fresh Companion or two, and the next one was sort of a “Restaurant At The End Of The Universe” riff. David and I both watched the first one, set in present-day London, laughed delightedly at some of the bits that were meant to be funny, and also laughed at some of the things that were meant to be “cool.” It’s a pretty good entry in…

Ha! What a great HALF a leg so far. I love how the producers figure out ways to change the rules, play with expectations, and keep this show fresh. In a normal 2-person team, international itinerary season, of course. This week I started smelling a rat at the beginning, when Phil said “Who will be eliminated… next?” In the past, this always used to herald a non-elimination leg. Fans got wise to this. Producers got wise to fans getting wise, and sometimes a team was eliminated on a “…next?” type episode. Tonight, it wasn’t a non-elim, and I should have…

We’re such geeks. While waiting for the replacement TiVo to arrive. my husband David has Snapstream set up so we’re watching the big TV through his laptop, with the sound coming out of the home theater speakers. And I have Snapstream on my laptop (which is also my main computer) and can watch shows David doesn’t follow, with my headphones on. And vice versa. So the Alton Brown show about steak was on (it’s a rerun), and I wondered what NECI on his ballcap stood for. Now thanks to Google, I know it stands for New England Culinary Institute, which…

Oh, my God, MY SHOW IS BACK. MY SHOW IS BACK! MY SHOW IS BACK! Due to being in Maui for the premiere, I missed it completely. And then when we got back, TiVo… died on us! So we’re getting a replacement. TiVo. Yep. In the meantime, David set me up with Snapstream’s BeyondTV, which he was using as a casual backup just to play around with. What with one thing and another, I was finally able to watch the premiere of TAR tonight, a week late. Unlike previous seasons, when I’ve listed all the teams with like/dislike, going on…

Via: Flickr Title: Taxi home By: GinnyRED57 Originally uploaded: 5 Mar ’06, 11.43am PST It doesn’t look like much of anything, but this is the taxi that brought us home this morning. Neither of us slept on the flight(s) back but we’re going to try to stay awake until a decent bedtime. This will be harderr for me than for David, because he’s got an appointment this afternoon that will keep him going for a while afterward. We’ve both had a fair amount of coffee and we’ll see how long we manage to hold out. Meanwhile, we have a VERY…

Chicago Tribune | Actor Dennis Weaver Dies at 81 He really had quite a distinguished career. What a pity that career included Submerged. Still, he was in some great plays, great TV series, and some great movies (not Submerged, though).

My buddies on HIGHLA-L will be amused by this for several reasons. First of all, ferrets is always funny. Second, most of them were proabably into “Due South,” too. Back in the day, I was the official “Ferret Minion Wrangler” and “Stoat Recruitment Specialist” on the list. Good times. via Manolo The Shoeblogger
