    Obama: Democrats Must Court Evangelicals

Obama: Democrats Must Court Evangelicals | Chicago Tribune Obama ROCKS. Right on. RIGHT on: WASHINGTON — Sen. Barack Obama chastised fellow Democrats on Wednesday for failing to “acknowledge the power of faith in the lives of the American people,” and said the party must compete for the support of evangelicals and other churchgoing Americans. “Not every mention of God in public is a breach to the wall of separation. Context matters,” the Illinois Democrat said in remarks to a conference of Call to Renewal, a faith-based movement to overcome poverty. “It is doubtful that children reciting the Pledge of Allegiance…

Keep The Story Alive: RFK JR and the Stolen Election of 2004

This story came out while I was off in Utah, dealing with the family crisis (or not dealing, depending on whichever day it was). Since then, I’ve seen a few “mainline” news citations in Bloglines. The Seattle P-I wonders if this will be this year’s version of the infamous Downing Street Memo; a story that was so not “nothing new” that bloggers had to remind journalists to use their own noses and smell a hot lead. Just doing my bit to keep this one alive and smelly, too. Rolling Stone : Was the 2004 Election Stolen? Like many Americans, I…

    Rumsfeld vs. McGovern Edits

Media Matters collated several different news stories and compared different edits. Some edits amount, in varying degrees, to a lack of truthiness. There’s a video clip with them all run together – it gets pretty repetitive. The interesting thing is the FOX news one – it shows how much more contentious the setting was, with two other protestors visible (one being grabbed by a security guard) and you can hear more heckling from people on both sides. Maybe FOX wanted to show how embattled Rummy was and how idiotic those damn liberrrls were to disrupt the proceedings. Media Matters –…

    Hastert Redux

Here’s an even better visual on Speaker Hastert’s cynical press conference at a BP station: arrives in a hydrogen cell-powered car, departs in same, switches cars around the corner to the typical black SUV (one of fourteen, no doubt). Thank you, Speaker Hastert, for your visible support of environmental concerns, and your unwavering loyalty of the industries that make this country great. Neil Young’s Living With War

Neil Young’s latest, much anticipated album went “live” on this website yesterday. The music is streaming for free, but not for download, so it’s not quite “free.” But you can listen, and the lyrics are sort of available – you click on the song title to see them stream across the screen ticker-style (and if you click the license plate to see the title list and get to where the ticker scrolls, the music cuts off). It sounds pretty rough – reportedly, it was written, recorded, and marketed in a hurry. There’s a lot of feedback – and I bet…

George W. Bush Must Be Impeached (yes, really)

What the hell, I used another online “Write a letter to your Congresscritter” form to add my little voice to the rising chorus calling for impeachment. Dear [Decision Maker To Be Filled In Later], Why have I chosen a form letter to write to ask your support in a grass-roots effort to Impeach George W Bush? Because it’s easy, yes, and also because I was reminded of this issue just now while I was working online. Actually, I’m all for a package deal – impeach the whole pack of lying, warmongering, spying war-and-energy profiteers, I say. I appreciate the work…

Ryan Convicted on all 18 counts

Chicago Tribune | Ryan found guilty on all counts At a news conference after the verdict, Ryan said he will appeal. “The decision today is not in accordance with the kind of public service I’ve given to the people of Illinois over 40 years,” he said. What the heck kind of post-verdict statement is that? Is he saying he deserves a pass and a pat on the back for all his years of service? Is he actually justifying his actions??? Yes, there were screwy things going on with the jury in the last couple of weeks. But this comment makes…

Paul Krugman: John And Jerry, Happy Friends Again

Via Nevada Thunder, a link to the full text of Paul Krugman’s piece on John McCain and Jerry Falwell, who are making up their old spat so John can get Jerry’s endorsement for all the sheeple in the Christian Right. Nevada Thunder Blog Archive John and Jerry. He concludes: But if you choose to make common cause with religious extremists, you are accepting some responsibility for their extremism. By welcoming Mr. Falwell and people like him as members of their party, Republicans are saying that it’s O.K. — not necessarily correct, but O.K. — to declare that 9/11…
