Doyce, whose blog posts I read most often at one remove via the miracle of quotes and feeds, starts it off: I’m actively communicating online all day, every day, but my main blog languishes. Why is that? Simplicity. Twitter tweets, facebook updates, Flickr photo posting, and sharing news articles with commentary… all of those things are easier and faster BY AN ORDER OF MAGNITUDE than posting via Movable Type. Via What it boils down to is this… – doycetesterman And ***Dave carries it forward: Now, I don’t do Facebook, and have never had a justification (see below) for using Twitter.…

BBC NEWS | Middle East | Israeli troops enter Gaza Strip Israeli ground troops have entered the Gaza Strip, Israeli military officials have confirmed, a week after the offensive against Hamas began. An Israeli military spokeswoman said the intention was to take control of areas from which Palestinian militants have been firing rockets into Israel. Witnesses say armoured vehicles crossed into northern Gaza at four separate points, supported by helicopters. In my opinion, not called for if you look at the proportionality of the conflict and the casualties. Not only that, but a family member is supposed to be flying…

Padre Mickey tells the thrilling tale of one memorable Christmas, when a flaming dessert burned itself into the memories of everyone present (also the carpet, furniture, the kitchen floor) before being kicked back into the kitchen). He promises 2 more visitations of this memory, as recalled by other, saner heads. It’s a Rashomon Christmas! You owe it to yourself to read the whole thing: I nearly coughed up a lung laughing at it. We had a wonderful meal; lots of good food, and the children opened presents, and oh, what a wonderful Christmas it was! Gramma Connie had prepared a…

Last night’s snow (or as I originally typo-ed, slow), dumped only about 4 inches on suburban streets in the area, but the traffic was horrendous and there were enough minor accidents to put corks in all the bottlenecks. And due to the way the east-west arterials around here are blocked by large tracts of parkland or shopping malls, there’s only a few ways to get between work and home. If there’s bad weather, or traffic, everything gets choked off at one of two places. I started out pissed, as I had a late “hit” call where someone needed an exchange…

Pretty cool. I had this in my “shared Google News” backlog. Which is pretty much the only way I can “blog” during the workday, via my iPhone, that just takes a few clicks. I really like this image. Via Open Thread | Crooks and Liars

On Election Night, or as ***Dave calls it, Obama Night, a small group of strangers gathered for a quiet celebration at the Lincoln Memorial. What a shot. What a magnificent image. Via Daily Kos: Lincoln Memorial – my election night

I have a TERRIBLE memory, but sometimes I get a flash of insight. Does the name Nathan Sproul mean anything to you? I got one of those flashes, and found this Daily Kos: State of the Nation post that I actually remembered reading in 2004.
