Television Without Pity » Doctor Who » Fear Her Rose and the Doctor head to London 2012 for the Olympics, only to find themselves on a suburban street where the children are disappearing. After a bunch of herrings both red and anvilicious, it is discovered that one lonely little girl named Chloe is responsible: she pulls her neighbors into her art by drawing them. Shes also got her mean scary demonic dad locked up in a very scary picture in her closet. After a billion years of gumshoe and lots of sardonic twitticisms, it is discovered that the girl is…

Telegraph | News | Curious incident in the night leaves Bishop of Southwark with black eye and sore head The best part: he climbs into the back seat of a complete stranger's car outside a bar near his cathedral, and proceeds to toss toys out into the street. When challenged, he replied "I'm the Bishop of Southwark, it's what I do." His flock have already forgiven him and shrugged it off. A holiday party at the Irish Embassy and a bottle or two of excellent Portuguese wine probably contributed to his confusion. He apparently forgot that he had not been driven…

One Utah » Blog Archive » Mitt Romney and The Mormon Question My frustration, like so many who have faced their church of birth, is that in my own mind only, obviously not in reality; but in my own pain, is that if I inhale hugely, the structure trembles, and threatens either to kill me or to collapse; and if I exhale, I blow it away, so much so that it can’t help me, and I really need it’s help; and I can’t help them, since I’ve tried so very hard to do so, and I’ve had success only once,…

The work on Mom's house is done. It's an atypical house for its Salt Lake neighborhood: it's a Cape Cod in a sea of Prairie Bungalows and Brick Tudors. Before: I can tell you from personal experience that the various patterns and strips of wallpaper were a bitch to get off. And Mom always hated that PINK! TUB! and the salmon colored toilet, which most emphatically did not match. After: Very basic, very white. New tile in all the bathrooms, the kitchen, and the entryway. New flooring in the "family" room (which was the dining room, but oh well).…

KRT Wire | 12/19/2006 | White House retreats from Iraq question WASHINGTON – The White House refused Monday to characterize how the Iraq war is going as Americans' approval rating of President Bush's strategy hit a new low. "I'm not playing the game anymore," White House spokesman Tony Snow said when asked about fears the U.S. is not winning in Iraq. Snow's tactical retreat came amid questions from reporters who wanted White House reaction to former Secretary of State Colin Powell's assessment that the situation in Iraq is "grave and deteriorating," and "nothing seems to be improving." "You're trying to…

An Update on Senator Johnson – The Caucus – Politics – New York Times Blog From my conversations with the doctors and based on the progress he has been making, I feel very confident that he is going to be getting back to work sooner rather than later. I've been watching this story out of the corner of my eye since it first broke – didn't want to jinx myself by blathering on without knowing too much. How unbloggerlike of me. Anyway, I hope Sen. Johnson continues to make progress. It's ironic that for the moment, the hopes of progressives…

One Utah » Blog Archive » It’s Hard Work, Working Hard… President Bush, according to Newsweek, is going to take longer than expected to get up to speed on the war in Iraq. Briefing the president has been limited to short 45-minute sessions that won’t “overload the president’s schedule,” starting with “a basic level of strategy” and gradually introducing him to various aspects of Iraq policy. My mom and dad had a long-standing joke between them; when Pop would return home, Mom would gauge how tired he was by it. She'd ask "Wuhk hahd, or hahdly wuhkin'?" It was a…
