Here’a a fun thing to do on a Saturday morning: attend a live radio show, and see what they’re laughing at when nobody has actually said anything. “Whad’ya Know” is ostensibly a quiz show, but it’s actually more of an improv interview show. Michael Feldman never knows what will happen when he asks questions of members of the audience and of people calling in, but usually it’s funny or entertaining. And even if it’s not, Michael’s reaction always is. He usually has a “main” guest who’s done something interesting – written a book, usually – and then he’ll do a…

One way to remind me to buy cat food is to send a Pix message to my cameraphone. Very clever. Unfortunately, I left my phone at home, so when David sent the message, my phone started buzzing from its place on the countertop, where it had been quietly charging. Yes, yes, I’ll remember to take it with me tomorrow. Via: Flickr Title: Message from riley By: GinnyRED57 Originally uploaded: 12 Jan ’06, 1.12am PST I need more food.

We were on our way south and west to Starved Rock State Park. I put up some photos on my Flickr page, and a few more are coming. Via: Flickr Title: Day out By: GinnyRED57 Originally uploaded: 7 Jan ’06, 6.38pm PST

First of all, sorry to have left this unexplained for so long – David and I went and spent the night in downtown Chicago last Thursday because we were both off last week and we had a bunch of things we’d been wanting to do for fun. UPDATE: Everytime I look at this image I think how striking it is how a museum display can have so much impact. It’s a little like walking into an unexpected cathedral. Besides a narrative using historical dioramas and reenacted filmed material, there’s also a really cool video showing how the old German submarine…

Oh, a lady friend of mine is going to be very intrigued by this brand of rum, which was marked “Pistol” in the store. It has a tiny little Ho Tai figure on it with Chinese characters. Perhaps it’s meant for Chinese DVD pyrates? Via: Flickr Title: 12-10-05_1730.jpg By: GinnyRED57 Originally uploaded: 10 Dec ’05, 11.31pm PST

David’s return from the Great White North was accomplished and I picked him up from O’Hare’s KissN’Fly meeting point last night after work. He noted that it was much colder in Chicago than it was in Canada. Figures. We amused ourselves by sending text messages back and forth while waiting for the “Kiss” part: David: I have landed. 5 minutes to the gate. I will call when i am on the train. Hungery? Ginny:[picture of bright yellow arcade covering the KissN’Fly, which serves both buses and private cars] David:Stuck @ gate. Be a few more minutes. Ginny: [quicktext]Love you David:…

We were at Home Despot earlier mulling ways to make interior storm windows. As I originally thought it might be a variation of the magnetic kit thingy I found, we were at the Plexiglas section. There was an upper shelf that was empty, except for a long cardboard box that had been repurposed by the store with the message “Please place nothing on displays,” which was written in black marker. As you can see, it looks oh so slick and professional and workmanlike. Immediately below, someone got as philosophical as it gets in a suburban hardware store: “what about this…

We went to see our friend Earle in this production of Beauty and the Beast last night – another fine entry in a long list of fun, great community theater productions. It always amazes me how they manage to put on a professional-caliber show on with volunteer help and donated funds. It compared pretty well with the version of Beauty and the Beast we saw at the Marriott theater previously. The woman playing Belle was especially good, as was the Beast. The only rough bits had to do with sound – body mikes not working right or issuing popping noises.…
