Now it’s just a question of doing the main cutover from Movable Type to WordPress. Why? Because I was getting spam-hammered on my Holy Moly website, and MT just couldn’t deal with it, let alone get rid of it very well. I wasn’t getting as much here, but that’s because my installation here was newer and slightly more robust in the anti-spam arsenal. According to my husband David, WP is about impervious, and this particular theme, Tiga, is gravatar-ready. Soon enough, I’ll add in some dazzle via a plugin or three and fix up the header. The photo shows our…

Aw, who wouldn’t want a couple of horses’ asses on their bookshelf? So tasteful. I can think of a Congressman or two who might really appreciate these. Via: Flickr Title: Horses asses By: GinnyRED57 Originally uploaded: 8 Oct ’06, 1.31pm CDT PST

Remember way back when I sprained my foot? That was almost 2 years ago, and my foot still bothers me. I never did get around to going to physical therapy, and I haven’t been wearing very good shoes. In fact, the last 8 months or so, I’ve been wearing flip-flops and Birks, because my sport shoes were actually a size too small, as my feet have gotten larger. I had some arch supports in the sports shoes, but they never really felt that good. So, like others in the family, I ended up seeing a specialist about my feet. Here,…

UPDATE: The window installers worked like dogs yesterday and got all but one set of windows downstairs and the patio doors installed, and then stayed until 730pm clearing out debris and vacuuming more thoroughly than…uh… more thoroughly than the housekeeping staff generally do around here. 🙄 They’re here again, right on the dot of 8am, just as promised. We have a lot of touch-up repairs to the window edges – plastering or spackling will need to be re-done where it fell off the metal strips on the inside of the windows, and it will need to be painted. And, guess…

Did these guys call each other before they got dressed for their big day out going to Chicago’s Museum of Science and Industry? Here they are, purchasing transit cards, which probably means they’re tourists. Their caps are all perfect fits for their perfectly round heads – they looked like a set of bobbleheads that decided to go on a spree. I’d like to know why the guy onthe far left broke the fashion rules and isn’t wearing a white shirt though. He’s too matchy! And yes, I’ll probably regret trying to use yet another beta upgrade of ecto, because every…

I started a really, really long post about our visit to the Museum of Science and Industry‘s Leonardo da Vinci exhibit, but then ecto and I had a parting of the ways and my post got totally messed up. I had a ton of links that were all formatted incorrectly, and then my attempts to add text got formatted all wrong because ecto does not play well if you switch between “Rich View” formatting and “HTML View” formatting. Plus, the backspace key behaves oddly in ecto, and I over-deleted a bunch of critical text. Bad, bad things happen. For instance,…

This year’s Altar of Repose at Holy Moly. It symbolizes Christ in the tomb, and a vigil takes place that lasts at least a couple of hours (theoretically, until midnight on Maundy Thursday of Holy Week). It’s dark, and lovely, and sad, and beautiful. There’s even a monstrance with a big Host wafer in it; we’re pretty High Church at Holy Moly and like things done proper. Meet Mrs. Goose, our newest parishioner at Holy Moly. She’s a bit shy and more than a little defensive; she’s got five or six eggs and has chased at least one friendly greeter off, hissing and flapping her wings. One Sunday morning she may wander in the open door, and then the Sunday School ladies will be in a quandary about what to offer her kids for Christian Education. I decided to take a photo of something I use every single workday – actually two things. That’s my handmade, wide-bottomed coffee mug, bought when we went on a road trip to Starved Rock State Park. Every weekday morning without fail, I fill the thing with coffee, at least twice. And the green folder underneath it is the hated group hotels file, one of my least favorite tasks. Still, I do it to the best of my abilities, and today I got an award at work – kind of the runner-up award to the big one, which involves travel to…
