    Belling the Fish

Oh boy! We’re drilling holes in the house! Things are done slowly, and sometimes not in logical order around here, but eventually they do get done. Although they might get done in strange ways — tonight, for instance, we tried belling the fish, and now our ceiling jingles, but we have successfully achieved a goal we’ve been working towards for several months now… very soon, there will not be electronic spaghetti dangling all over the back of the wet bar, and as of about 90 minutes ago, there is no dusty speakerwire trailing along the floor and threatening to trip…

    It Snew

It rained much of yesterday, and then it snowed last night. Now everything is grey and sloppy — and we’re getting ready to go out, so I have to think about “what not to wear” under these conditions. I think heels and a silk blouse are out of the question, don’t you? Yep, fall back on my fashion staple — Timberland hiking boots, jeans, several layers on top including bad-weather shell. My only concession to “decorative” dressing is a blue pashmina shawl. I like it, it’s soft and warm. I think I need some more of them, maybe I’ll find…

    Sushi I Go Go

David and I have sushi telepathy. Today at approximately 515pm, a random thought popped into my head (as they so often do). This one said, simply, “Sushi.” And then in a rush to justify this thought, I pondered, “well, we’ve been good – ate in several nights this week already, with the exception of the big blowout at Sabor the other night.” So I called David on his cell and said: “I have one word to say to you.” (In the silence, no one can hear you say “can you hear me now”) “Sushi.” David started screaming something about “get…

    New Furniture… Woo Hoo, Etc.

The new entertainment center and bookcase for the family room were delivered today… this was built to order back in January. I am SO glad it’s here… because now we can get the TV off the counter of the wet bar, where it’s been since we bought it last summer. Earlier tonight after looking the pieces over and pondering one challenge (fitting the tuner into the built-in shelf – a piece of trim is going to make it a tricky fit), David said “Maybe… we should think about getting a new sofa now.” Oh please oh please oh please oh…

My Day, or: Wot I Did on Sunday

Got up, eventually, or at least became conscious while listening to :NPR’s “Sunday Edition.” For some reason my dreams were all mixed up with some college basketball team’s woeful performance in a tournament. In the dream I was telling one of the players that they were an embarassment to dream about and they needed to hustle, hustle, hustle the ball more. I don’t even like basketball, what was that all about? Okay. Needed coffee soon after that. David brought some up (he often does that on weekend mornings, the little muffin) and found something to wear and toddled off to…

    Hey, There’s an Outside Here

We actually got out of the house and went cross-country skiing, just as we planned. Amazing! There’s this place that’s not in the house called the “outdoors,” and we were in it for a while. Conditions weren’t totally ideal (it could have been about 5 or 10 degrees colder, the snow was a bit sticky in the tracks) but it wasn’t bad. We went to the forest preserve/ bike path loop nearest us, and there was just enough snow base to ski on, but not quite enough to make you forget that you were skiing on an asphalt path. I…

    Snow Day

We’re dragging out the cross-country ski stuff to get out and play in the snow today. No promises as to how long it’ll be, we’re getting a typically late start. I’m almost done with another England trip journal entry, just have a few more photos to add in at the end. Should be posted tonight. Ta-ra! We’re off to fall down a lot and get frustrated with having boards stuck on our feet!

    Cold/I Want My Mommy

More freezing weather – it’s a bright day and we’re debating whether to go cross-country skiing or not. I’m holding out to tomorrow, when the temperature is supposed to climb up into the 20’s (Fahrenheit). Besides which, the snowbase is only about 4 inches, very light and powdery. Which means that it’s blown off anywhere that’s exposed and windy. So I think we need a bit more snow to not risk tearing the 5h1t out of our skis. Hi, Mom! Talked to Mom just now and tried to explain “blogging” to her. Aw, she’s so cute. She corrected numerous factual…

    Brr

We went for a “walk” on Saturday to take pictures of “pretty winter scenes.” Here is a bush. This is the only kind of Bush that I like these days. Not that I’m political or anything.

Mink – Proper Attire For The Frozen Food Aisle

Cooks.com | Recipe | STIR FRY BEEF AND VEGETABLES Went home last night with the vague intention of stopping off at Dominick’s (acually, a former Byerly’s location) to pick up something for stir fry. There’s often solid entertainment value to be had at a large grocery store, but usually it’s to do with parents behaving badly, or head-on collisions between those toddler-friendly grocery carts tricked out to look like little cars. Nope, last night it was a woman in a mink coat and her controlling boyfriend – they were either the poster couple for adult ADD, or a pair of…
