Why Can’t Bircherism Die Already?

Post: Why can’t we have nice reality? Why do conspiracy theories never die? And why is “the liberal media” not very liberal, and mostly corporate?

I don’t have the answers, but this article resonates along with the latest episode of Professional Left Podcast Ep. 888 Suffer No Fools and the article ticks a box marked “stuff Mom ranting about Cleon Skousen and the Birchers.”

Mom did NOT like the Birchers, and as she was Colorado born, but marooned in weirdo-conservative Utah, I always wondered why. They might have been active in western Colorado or New Mexico when my older sisters were still in high school. There must have been some triggering event in the late 50’s. It might have been about fluoridated water. And hey ho, Utah just became the first state to ban fluoridated water, so Mom would have been righteously torqued off.

I miss her. She’d enjoy reading The Muckracker from the independent newspaper The Colorado Recorder. But only if they carried the daily Jumble.

Just remembered that her brother-in-law was a dentist in the 50’s in Colorado Springs, so that may be where she got her information. The American Dental Association has been fighting the Birthers’ anti-fluoridation crap for decades.
