Post: These are just the latest legal firms to bend the knee to Trump, the king of spin and deceit. Now the Deputy Attorney General of the United States can call on his former law firm for free legal work…for evil, not the public good. And also bar Justice Department lawyers from American Bar Association events. Four of the firms – Kirkland & Ellis, Latham & Watkins, Allen Overy Shearman Sterling, and Simpson Thacher & Bartlett– agreed to pledge $125m each in pro bono work to causes backed by the Trump administration. Cadwalader, Wickersham & Taft said it would…

Post: How one NEH-funded group found out their grant was terminated – in an a poorly written, bellicose email that looked like spam. Dear Friends, Well, last Thursday, April 3, after I wrote to you, we received a uniquely sourced, strangely formatted, poorly written e-mail. Ostensibly (see below) from the federal government, it was a notice of termination for our recently awarded $350,000 National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) grant that funds meaningfully important expansions of the cyberSW […] Link: New Mexico Delegation Reintroduces Chaco Protection Legislation – Archaeology Southwest

Post: When journalistic integrity is worth less than keeping your mouth shut and your paycheck coming. Fact-checking is impossible when Stephen Miller gets his Resting Big Lie Face going. His eyes show he’s only listening to the hamster wheel in his head that spits out talking points. Meanwhile, I’m looking forward to working in a sweatshop making Trump merch. The look on Fox host Martha MacCallum’s face is priceless. Link: Stephen Miller Is Delighted Your Retirement Fund Is Tanking

Post: He’s nuts if he thinks manufacturers will move to the US; they like paying rock bottom non-union wages and they’ll pass the higher costs to American consumers. Lose-lose! What can possibly go wrong? Since he lives in his own bubble universe, I’m wondering how long his big donors, the few relatively sane conservatives in Congress, and his “IKEA cabinet” will hold out until the murmurs behind the scenes become screaming fights in the Oval Office. Spine of steel? Nope. Skull of rock. Global economy rocked again as rates on imports to the US from dozens of trading partners rose…

Post: About a year ago, I picked up this useful little folding ergonomic Bluetooth keyboard, the Seenda KTU-403. But it’s apparently been discontinued, and some of the multifunction keys are starting to spit out weird characters. Fortunately, I’ve stumbled on to some weird key combos so that I can keep using them – they aeem to have different emulator settings or something. Meanwhile, can’t find the manual, scuffled into a drawer or online. Fortunately, after searching for the model number, the manual for a very similar product popped up, probably made by the same manufacture under another marque. So hokay,…

Post: Dammit, #HANDSOFF the National Endowment for the Humanities! One of my non-political interests is archaeology – but now that’s political, too. “Preservation Archaeology Today for 4/3/25: NEH grants terminated; IMLS disbanded; Smithsonian, Interior told to whitewash history; the importance of Indigenous curators; Chaco roads; SunZia case update; podcast, jobs, internships, events, & more.” Link: BREAKING: NEH Grants Terminated – Archaeology Southwest

Why can’t we have nice reality? Why do conspiracy theories never die? And why is “the liberal media” not very liberal, and mostly corporate?
