    Where I'll Be Christmas Eve

Until about 1130pm, I'll be singing at the late service. The earlier service will be "Las Posadas" but probably not like how they do it in New Mexico: they're using a door borrowed from a local theatre group. If I were involved I would have made them go all around the church, in the cold, in the dark. We have enough exterior doors to make it work (there's a tradition song, with verses sung at each neighbor's door). Christmas Eve At St Nicholas December 24 – 4pm Las Posadas, 9pm Lessons and Carols Christmas Eve December 24 4pm Family Service…

    Murphyola’s and Veda’s Rum Balls

This is one of several recipe cards Mom wrote up to pass along the secret of her famous Rum Balls, which she developed with her best friend, Veda West. .The story of how this recipe was created involved a big church fundraiser, endless taste-testing, taking doors off hinges, and getting plastered. Also the way I heard it, Mom and Veda had to explain to the church pastor why they were so shickered making Christmas cookies in the church kitchen. My niece Raeanne has the Christmas card they sent back and forth multiple times in later years, with a story about…

    Furries Go To the Dogs

"Chlorine gas sickened several people and forced the evacuation of thousands of guests from a suburban Chicago hotel early Sunday, including many dressed in cartoonish animal costumes for an annual furries convention who were ushered across the street to a convention center that was hosting a dog show." This was a dangerous situation and people… or anthropomorphs… could have been seriously injured or worse, because it appears to have been deliberate. And I know a few people online who are "virtual" furries, so the concept of identifying so strongly with an animal persona isn't that unusual to me. But still,…
