Via the wonders of the Internets, The Adventures of Accordion Guy in the 21st Century › The “Star Wars Trumpet†Video pointed me at this awesum video: [kml_flashembed movie="http://www.youtube.com/v/Wffwg7pA0t8" width="400" height="326" wmode="transparent" /] It’s so incredibly bad. According to the post at YouTube, this tape has been making the rounds of TV news stations for a while, passed between tape heads along the lines of “you think that clip’s bad, what about THIS?” The best part is when she starts dancing around, very ineptly, during the “lasers firing sound effects” portion of the “Disco Star Wars” theme, attempting to evade…

Peter Sagal, host of news quiz show NPR : Wait Wait… Dont Tell Me has written a new book that’s being offered as a premium on pledges of $120.00 per month. Sagal is hosting this morning’s pledge drive, and with his quick wit, it actually is fun listening to WBEZ begging for fundage. Actually, as stations go, BEZ does a pretty good job of making pledge drives endurable; they shorten them by a day or so by running a promotional drive at the beginning with crazy big goals – if they reach the goals, they cut the length of the…

Orcinus notes that the recent Barna poll of young adults under 30 shows that the ultra-conservative religious right does not have time or demographics on its side – can I get an amen? They’re not going to be having it all their way for many more years.

Evangelical Movement – Voters – Religion – Politics – Christians and Christianity – Republicans – New York Times The “old lions” of the Religious Right aren’t roaring as loudly as before, and the Republican Party is turning an increasingly deaf ear on their “RALLY BASE!” hot-button issues. Hurrah.

epiScope: Expulsion THE Anglican Province of Central Africa has initiated moves to expel controversial bishop of the capital, Nolbert Kunonga, after he withdrew the Harare diocese from the province alleging that it had failed to censure bishops sympathetic towards homosexuality. There’s other evidence that a number of other African Anglicans aren’t necessarily supportive of the anti-gay agenda of the conservative faction represented by +Akinola, +Orimbi, +Minns the former Episcopal priest, and so on. The recent CAPA meeting concluded with the African bishops in attendance finding evidence that a “Western pen” (presumably that of Bishop Martyn Minns, former Episcopalian priest, now…

Full-Circle Revival Grr. Parish poaching in Torrance (tags: Episcopal schism Anglican Nigeria) The Christian Century Sigh. By the way, iIsn’t the conservative faction really just a bunch of Baptists in Anglican drag? (tags: Episcopalian Baptist McCain) Glenn Greenwald calls them “Dead-Enders” The 30% (is it really that many) of the American electorate that backs Bush no matter what, until his last moment in office, are described as “dead-enders” by Greenwald. Nice one. (tags: Republican Deadenders)

First of all, what a good thing the New York Times no longer hides the good stuff behind a paywall, so now you can read Paul Krugman in the clear without depending on someone blogging his entire column. Not that there’s anything wrong with that, because information should always be free. Second of all, it seems Paul is a Talking Heads fan. Same Old Party – New York Times People claim to be shocked at the Bush administration’s efforts to disenfranchise minority groups, under the pretense of combating voting fraud. But Reagan opposed the Voting Rights Act, and as late…

We’ve been home for a week, and our two-week vacation has become a memory. All this week, we’ve been getting up, going to work, coming home, catching up with shows on TiVo, catching up with reading, catching up with Riley. For me, work wasn’t so much catching up as deleting a bunch of unwanted emails and shaking my head over the way a few of my clients seem to think that it’s no big deal to arrange a lot of hotel rooms with only 2 or 3 days’ notice. Unfortunately, my backup had to deal with this as it happened…

NPR : 1957 Was the Year of the Icons Robert Siegel did a little culture piece today about 1957, the year that launched Sputnik, the X-13, and me. Apparently, Eisenhower dispatched the federal troops to Little Rock on the day I was actually born, although my parents were probably too busy at the time to notice. A lot of cool stuff happened in 1957. I’d better surf this trend as long as I can – probably 50 minutes’ worth.
