Father Jake Stops the World: With Apolgies to Don McLean
I'm not a supporter of Rev. Don Armstrong's schismatic activism, or that of his former colleagues at the ACI, but I don't approve of what happened Sunday, when some teenaged idiot kid threw a cream pie in his face at the early service. That's just stupid and immature, and no way to treat a man of the cloth, no matter what his views. That said, Father Jake's take on "Anglican Pie" is kind of amusing, but only from one point of view. It would be funnier still if it was funny from both points of view.
While I usually appreciate Fr Jake’s PoV, I found his light treatment of the pie-throwing — at a priest, and during Mass — to be irksome.
I fear the growing stresses and divisions within TEC ar e only feeding upon themselves.
I think so, too, Dave. It was interesting the other day when someone stopped by from the other side of the great divide. We’ve got to get over the issues of property and boundaries in some fair and equitable way, so that everyone can move forward in the way of their choosing.
The pettiness does not become either side.
I’ll still have strong opinions on what I consider to be right and good and fair and welcoming and inclusive, of course – with the Founder’s example in mind.
I can do without judging other people just because they happen to disagree with or judge me, I guess. And also I can try to ignore the whole “us and them” thing when possible.
