BBC NEWS | Europe | Celibacy 'obligatory' for priests
Pope Benedict XVI has confirmed that celibacy "remains obligatory" for Roman Catholic priests.
He also restated the ban on Communion for divorced Catholics who remarry, and on abortion, euthanasia and gay unions which he said were "not negotiable".
Welcome, former Catholics, yearning to breathe (and live and worship) freely. The Episcopal Church welcomes you. If you live in the Chicago suburbs, anywhere within reach of Elk Grove Village, we at St Nicholas with the Holy Innocents will welcome you with open arms and hearts and minds.
It’s always interesting when folks in our congregation discuss their religious origins. About a quarter are “cradle Episcopalians.” About a third are ex-Catholic. About a third are ex-Lutheran, and the rest are a variety of sources.
As an ex-Catholic, I can unequivocally state that seeing a woman serving at the altar was one of the real deciders to me that TEC was where I wanted to be.
This is exactly why I left Rome in August.
Bye-bye Benny. You can keep it ALL to yourself.
I’ll go with God.
And your little red shoes, too, Ben.
Anyway, I’d say at least a third of our current melded congregation is made up of former Catholics. Plus at least two of the priests.
I’d say my current church is about 70-80% X-RC.
But, RC is bigger, so, they must be right! Not!
