Spoiler warning for my husband David, and for ***Dave of DDtB – we’re only up to the end of the second season here, but the linked article includes information about the third season now being filmed.
And meanwhile, David is hooking up his new toy, which is some kind of mega-whizbang media hub switch thing that will allow us to view shows captured by his Snapstream software, which acts as an auxiliary to TiVo. Currently, to do this involves screwing around with some cables and his laptop, sometimes with inadvertent humor:
The last time David tried to do this, our friend Steve happened to IM him at a critical juncture. Hi, Steve!
Now, apparently, it will be possible to switch back and forth between our various kinds of media, and a universal remote is able to control it all. Currently, I have to juggle 2 remotes in order to switch from watching TV to listening to the radio or watch a DVD.
This is made possible by a nifty little device called a Hauppauge MediaMVP MVP-1000 Digital Media Receiver.
We saw it in action the other night at Mitch and Gloria’s, and David decided to order one yesterday. It arrived today.. guess Amazon isn’t so busy now that Xmess is over. Laptops and pop-up messages from friends will no longer be required in order to switch over to Snapstream’s stored shows.
And why do we have Snapstream in addition to TiVo? Because we’re geeks. We watch Doctor Who, you know.
