ABC News: Stingray Kills ‘Crocodile Hunter’ Irwin
No, it wasn’t a croc that got him in the end, but a stingray thwapped him in the chest with the barbed tip of its tail.
Irwin will be immortalized as the “Crikey!” guy who got right up close to dangerous animal. In this case, a few times too many…but I’ll always remember him as yet another celebrity baby-dangler.
😥 i had never met steve and never been to autralia zoo but i was a huge fan i am 16 yrs old and i have some of his action figures in the boxes and every thing this was a huge tragedy and he will be really missed i feel sorry for the family losing such a great father, husband, teacher,friend,role model and all round great aussie bloke and i would just like to add that bindi and bob had the GREATEST dad in the world and they should be very proud of him even if he seemed a little corny at times he was a real ledgend
Well, “corny” is true enough, but also it bothered me that he seemed to get way, way too close to animals. I always like Jeff Corwin’s animal shows for the “up close to animals” approach better, because Corwin was easier for me to take and he didn’t make such a pest of himself.
It’s sad when someone dies and leaves people behind, and I’m sorry that you’ve lost a hero. I just can’t get onboard for all of the love, because I could see a bad animal-related end coming for Irwin a long time ago. 🙁
