We’re Sorry You’re Pissed

Episcopal leaders: We’re sorry gay bishop caused tension

The American Episcopal House of Bishops met in Salt Lake to come up with this message for the rest of the Anglican Communion regarding gay clergy, bishops, marriage, and things gay in general:

”We as the House of Bishops express our sincere regret for the pain, the hurt and the damage caused to our Anglican bonds of affection by certain actions of our church,” the bishops said. ”We express this regret as a sign of our deep desire for and commitment to continuation of our partnership in the Anglican Communion.”

I’m an American Episcopalian, and I approve of this message.

  1. Hi Elithea! Thanks for dropping by. This issue is pretty darn close to my heart, because many of the people who led me to the Episcopal Church in the first place were gay. And as I’ve said here before, my last vicar and my current vicar are gay. 🙂

I hope the disappointment the more conservative bishops felt with the pronouncement can be someday turned to insight, because the fact is there are a lot of gay members and clergy in our church doing a lot of great work.

It’s going to be a tough sell in the African provinces, though. We just have to keep reaching out and teaching out, if that doesn’t sound too trite.

If you click on my name, there’s a link to my parish’s website – I’d appreciate your comments on it, since I don’t have the vicar’s OK to turn comments on there yet.

  2. Hi, I just got back here, sorry. Ths link didn’t work, it didn’t redirect. But I’ll see if I can grab it and go there directly….

  3. Oh, I’m such a dork. But thank you for checking back. It’s at http://www.holy-innocents.org

Speaking of Africa, I just watched the latest Amazing Race episode – one of the tasks was at St George’s Church, the one that’s hewn out of solid rock. That was awesome, and they were mostly not jerks. 😉
