An old friend who’s an Episcopal priest in Washington state sent me a link to the “Christian Denomination Selector.”
My top 5 results were:
- Episcopal/Anglican Church
- Evangelical Lutheran Church
- Methodist/Wesleyan
- Unitarian Universalism
- Liberal Quakerism
Now for the fun part
So far so good, I’m happy with this list. No problems. The bottom five were about what you would expect, although “The Charch of Salt Lake and the Intermountain West” wasn’t dead last.
Oh, boy! Let’s have some fun here! David played around with it last week, trying to get it to say “You are not Christian at all, are you?” and got some very unexpected results – apparently because it’s not set up to give a satisfactory result for some very un-Christian (and completely contradictory) answers. I tried to get it to tell me “You are a godless pagan” but got nowhere.
So I tried to make interesting patterns. For instance, if you mark “No Preference” in answer to every question, with a “High” priority, the results are
- Assemblies of God
- Church of Christ
- Eastern Orthodox
- Episcopal/Anglican
- Evangelical Lutheran Church
I wonder if that falls under the “Fanatical Apathy” rubric?
If I disagree strongly with everything, including “There is one God” and “Jesus rose from the dead” and “There is a Heaven and Hell”, I get:
- Unity Church
- Unitarian Universalism
- Liberal Quaker
- Jehovah’s Witness
- Free Will Baptist
(what?)
… and the Charch came up sixth.
When I entered that water baptism is important, but not for babies (and a couple of other things), that tipped it up to Number 1.
Never could get it to say “Have you checked out the Buddhists?”
