The Never-Ending Bloga

What Not To Style

Got a lot done today – actually, David got a lot more done than I did, but I did get some tidying done, David did some vacuuming (we lead such glamorous lives).

Valentine’s cards were exchanged this morning – David got a new owner’s manual for his body. I tried to find an O’Reilly book on tantric seqs, but they seem not to have that title yet.

There are no helpful pictures, but he says the “tips and tricks” sections are similar to other manuals he has. Heh.

And yes, there was much incessant goofing around with the blog today, but partly with encouraging tips from Dorothea Salo’s “How to Make a Sandbox”, plus looking around to see how I might mess the banner up with a .jpg file or two, I got a sandbox started.

And of course a bit more color tweaking. I won’t be ready for truly radical change for a while yet. I’m still not completely happy with the look of the new stuff, either.

I’m the sort of person that can look at a help manual and my eyes just skid over the text, but show me an example, or show me how it’s put together behind the scenes, and I eventually get how the bits are supposed to go together and how to change them around.

As a child I was forever taking pens apart to see how they worked, and then putting them back together… most of my early efforts at reconstruction were not successful, but I got better (Mom would disagree). And now it seems that’s how I seem to be learning how the style sheet and index files work – taking them apart and putting them back together — one or two elements at a time.

I think the next step is also figuring out feeds and whatnot. This thing looks bad on any kind of PDA, but we’re not sure what we can do about that (though there’s probably a way, and I might occasionally want to look at the site via David’s PDA).
