The Never-Ending Bloga

This Blog Is Well Named – It’s Sucking. Sorry.

Okay, that’s day TWO of incessant color switching.

I’m sorry.

I really couldn’t be sorrier.

If you were attempting to read this mess today or yesterday, it was, well, a mess. But it’s not as chaotically messy and colorific now, and it IS back to the same incoherent and inconsequential level of writing as before.

I await your golf claps.
We all have to start somewhere. Somewhere in the crapper.

Notes of changes made: the jewel-like tones of last night were pretty on my home screen, but a horrid botch on my flatscreen (with a different resolution) at work. So the colors were changed to darker tones that might not be so harsh on the eye, including a linen-colored background that seems to be easier on the eye for text.

I’m aiming for the bastard child of Plain Jane and Col. Gettysburg (ret.), but it appears that Rusty may have gotten in first. The first stage was messing around with the colors and doing a slight amount of tweaking of content width and borders.

Next stage will be trying to add the boxed borders for posts similar to PJ. It may look like a botch, too, but I like the look. It will require a little more judicious deranging of values than I’ve had to do so far – so for now I’m comparing the two styles line by line, figuring out the differences and getting a vague idea that position:relative and position:absolute and float:left may yet bite me in the ass.

😉

Oh no. Smilies.

I wasn’t going to fall for the “cute custom smilies in MT thing” although doG knows I’ve seen enough to know it’s possible, and where to figure it out. I wasn’t going to do it. But I just realized that I already have a batch of cute custom smilies as a part of my AIM setup. But the color might be a problem…

More pondering on this is required.

Tap, Tap, Tap: (cough) Is This Thing On?

If you’re reading with any browser other than IE, please advise if things look bad or worse or even excremental. I’m concerned about how it looks on Mozilla and a few other platforms. Kind of wondering about Mac as well.

(aren’t we all? Whatever happened to old Mac? Duncan MacLeod of the Clan MacLeod? Woops, wrong category. Never mind.)

Spam Redux, or “I’ve Got A Little List”

Yes, we’d all like to redux spam. Filters for a few apparent referral sites have been set up – DGH and I couldn’t figure out the point of it, since they didn’t seem to be leaving comment spam. Granted, I did click on a few links and so on.

So far, SCO and those Rudely Intrusive Amazing Assholes and the Merry Pranksters Asinine Association and a number of obvious porn spam sites are on the list now. The Star Pr0s people are in there swinging. Some apparent candidate spam appears, along with a bit more porn spam in disguise as a candidate’s spouse.

I read a number of blogs today trying to figure out why this might be a problem and whether I’d have to do anything about it. We’ve decided that whatever the purpose of spamming referral logs is, it’s spam and that’s bad.

Thanks to the following people whose posts in the last week or two were helpful.
I’m still not sure what the point of it all is, but there’s got to be more in it for the spammer than bloggers clicking on URLS found in their stats logs.
